Glaslyn Osprey Project

Glaslyn Osprey project is based just outside Porthmadog, on the Glaslyn Estuary, North Wales, around 45 mins from our self-catering cottage here at Cae Garw.

With a public viewing point, and three live webcams watching the osprey nest, it gives birdwatchers excellent coverage of the nesting site, and newly hatched chicks.

Two large screens are based at the Visitors' Centre , where birders can view such scenes as the male osprey returing to the nest having caught a trout at the Glaslyn Estuary , with the female chasing intruders off the nest. The male might bring back plenty of sticks, moss and clods of earth to build up the nest with. The pair will add to the nest in this way throughout the season, as they did last year.

Other birds seen recently this year is the red kite, and has been seen several times flying around over the estuary. Also seen are a handful of red-breasted mergansers, half a dozen curlews, several lapwings flying around as well as a perigrine.
